One of my kids got terribly ill and has been in and out of the hospital for nine months.
It has been terrifying to the point where his survival is not a sure thing. This is something that has no road map for parents, let alone the person who is sick.
I have found myself adrift, unable to get much work done other than that which was staring me in the face with concrete deadlines. Forget business development or networking. My energy level completely disappeared for anything that was not related to his health.
Now, he is hopefully on his way to recovery. I am stepping back. It’s hard to get back on track but a call from my cousin reminded me of a strategy that has smoothed me through some other rough spots.
Several years ago, my church started choosing a theme for the year. Their first one was Fearless. I found that it served as a powerful reminder for making big intentions turn into action, then reality that year. In the following years, I chose a theme and then the idea vanished from my operating system. If I had chosen one, it might have been Survival.
A couple of days ago, my cousin called to ask me what my theme was and as I thought about it, I was having trouble finding one that fit.
I realized there was only one way to make the coming year better and it started by choosing a theme that would inspire me daily and challenge me to live into it, plus give me the onus of making it happen.
I ran across a number of suggested themes on a list and The Best Year Ever popped off the page at me. It’s my theme for 2017. It’s January 10th and I have 355 more days to make sure that this year is amazing in all of the areas of my life that I want some transformation in.
How bout you?
What will you use for your theme this year?
Take a minute and share it.
If you’re game, we can build a community out of our themes to spur each other on. If you’re in, email me.
